City of Ventura Golf Master Plan

January 18, 2001

The City and the Coastal Conservancy have reached consensus that current negotiations relative to the potential of relocating the City golf courses have concluded. The Conservancy has been unable to find adequate interest from land owners to sell at appraised values.

On Monday, January 29th the City Council will receive a staff recommendation to reaffirm its support of the Phase II portion of the golf master plan. This will allow staff to move forward with the development of a financial strategy for completing the renovation work and an operational plan for the long term maintenance and management of the courses. Staff expects to be able to complete this task within 60 days.

Present recommendations call for 'remodeling' both courses rather than redesigning either course. The high cost of acquiring land, land planning issues, environmental issues and market analysis were all factors that were considered in making this recommendation.
