Opening Night Cast Party  -  "The Rainmaker"    Saturday, October 14, 2000

Saturday, October 14: Ventura, California:  "Starting the third season of the Rubicon Theatre Company, the opening production of N. Richard Nash's "The Rainmaker" looks into the hearts of two dreamers; Starbuck, a man whose dreams are as big as the sky-- as big as his imagined name; and Lizzie, whose quite and simple dreams are of home and family. They find one another somewhere between fantasy and reality. They, and the characters around them, are beautifully, poetically transformed. And because "The Rainmaker" is a romantic fable, the entire landscape -- the whole world -- is also transformed."

The above is the joint statement made by James O'Neil and Daryl Lynn Burns, whose dreams of a quality theatre group in Western Ventura County are quietly being fulfilled. To a packed opening night audience, Stephanie Zimbalist transformed the character of Lizzie Curry with such a high quality performance, that it was hard to imagine you weren't in a Broadway or London theater experiencing this live stage production. With her famous father in the audience, Stephanie and the rest of the cast received an immediate standing ovation from the entire audience upon speaking the last lines of the play.

The entire Rubicon Theatre group is to be congratulated. Also on tap for the 2000-2001 season are the following:

  • The World Goes Around --  November 30-December 24, 2000
  • The Glass Menagerie  --  March 1-25, 2001
  • The Boys Next Door  --  May 3-27, 2001
