Lost Canyons Golf Course Opens

Thursday, November 2, 2000 Simi Valley, California - what was once a blueprint is now a full-color reality, exceeding even the most optimistic expectations of the newest golf destination in Southern California. The much anticipated grand opening of Lost Canyons Golf Club took place today.

Course consultant Fred Couples and the Honorable Bill Davis, mayor of Simi Valley participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony and press conference. Others participating included: Jay Colliatie, Lost Canyons director of golf; Jerry Barton, president of Landmark National; John McCook, head professional at Lost Canyons; Joseph Kim, president of Simi Valley Canyon Resort, Inc and  Ross Perot, Jr., of Hillwood Investments.

A special plaque dedication to Muneo Hirasawa took place along with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Mr. Hirasawa purchased the land on which Lost Canyons was built in the late 1980's from Big Sky Ranch with the idea of developing the property into a world-class golf facility. His dream came to fruition today with the opening of the first of two 18 hole course.

The Sky Course, the first of two spectacular 18 hole championship layouts sculpted into the rolling foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains opened for play to the public on November 3rd. The Shadow course will open in early January.

Pete Dye, who generally does not like to compare his courses, has said that Lost Canyons is perhaps his greatest achievement in course design. "I've never in my life, or ever will again, have a property like this one. You have all of these great views from so many places, and that's what you're always going to see.

Legendary PGA Tour player Fred Couples, who acted as a consultant for the project, stated "I don't know of anyone that would come here and not be enthralled by the place. What Pete Dye has done here is built a remarkable course with some really incredible views. It is just a fantastic spot, and there is not a bad hole out here."

Both courses will measure about 7,000 yards from the back tees. The daily fees will be from $115 to $135. The greens fee includes a forecaddie in every group. Special rates are available now for Twilight play.
